1. Introduction to Mind Mapping (4 minutes)
What it is: A visual technique to brainstorm around a central concept.
How we'll use it: Our central concept is "Daily Reflection."
Instructions:
WALK TALK FLOCK MOD!
Start with the central phrase in the middle of your page.
Draw branches for main categories (e.g., Themes, Emotions, Mediums, Seasons).
From each branch, draw smaller branches for related ideas, words, or images.
Let your mind and pen wander freely! Use doodles and colors if inspired.
2. Solo Mind Mapping Sprint (5 minutes)
Action: Everyone quietly and individually creates their own mind map.
Prompt: "What does 'daily reflection' mean to you as an artist? Think about prompts, colors, senses, struggles, joys, and artistic styles."
Timer will be set. Focus on quantity and free association.
3. Share-Out & The Idea Harvest (8 minutes)
Go around the (virtual or physical) room for a rapid-fire share-out.
Each person shares one or two of the most exciting or unexpected branches from their map.
The facilitator (or a designated scribe) will capture all shared ideas on a master board for everyone to see.
4. Deep Dive in Pairs (7 minutes)
Break into pre-assigned pairs.
Task: Choose one compelling idea from the master board (or combine two!) and dive deeper.
Prompts for Pairs:
How could this idea become a specific, engaging prompt? (e.g., "The Color of My Mood," "A Line That Defines My Day").
What artistic medium or format would best suit it? (e.g., a small canvas, a collage, a single sentence, a haiku).
Brainstorm 3-5 new, related ideas sparked by this initial one.
5. Wrap-up & Next Steps (3 minutes)
Quick share from 1-2 pairs on a cool idea they developed.
Next Steps Announcement:
All ideas from the master board and pair discussions will be compiled and shared.
Our next meeting will focus on grouping these ideas and starting to structure the book.
Thank everyone for their creativity and energy!
Tips for the Facilitator:
Keep the Energy High: This is a fast-paced agenda. Gently keep things moving to respect the timebox.
Visual Setup: Have a large whiteboard, digital Miro board, or flip chart ready for the "Idea Harvest."
Prepare the Pairs: Decide pairs in advance to avoid wasting time.
Background Music: Consider playing low-energy, instrumental music during the solo mind mapping session to foster focus.
