LONGEST!:: Group Continuous Meeting (30 Minutes)
Theme: Hearing the Need Behind the Proposal
Opening (2 minutes)
Secretary/Chair: "Welcome to the WALK & TALK in ARTS planning meeting. Let's open with a moment of silence to listen for what is not being said, followed by the Serenity Prayer."
(Pause for silence, then prayer together.)
Step Check-In & The State of the Fellowship (5 minutes)
Secretary: "Let's do a quick go-around. In one sentence: How is your spirit today? And in one sentence: What is one word for how the fellowship feels to you right now—connected, scattered, heavy, light?"
(This surfaces the emotional context before any business is discussed.)
The 5th Tradition Vignette: Hearing the "Upmet Need" (18 minutes)
Secretary: "Our primary purpose is to support the artist who still suffers. If a member has proposed a structural change to the script. In our tradition, we believe this proposal is a gift—it is pointing to a need the fellowship may not be expressing. Let us listen for that need."
(Process for each proposed change):
State the Proposal (1 min): The member reads the proposed change aloud.
Listen for the Need (5 min): The group discusses: "If this change were made, what would it solve? What feeling or gap is this member trying to address? Is it logistical (time, clarity) or emotional (inclusion, safety, relevance)?"
Reflect on the Purpose (3 min): "Does this need align with our primary purpose of helping the suffering artist? Or is it about our comfort as members?"
The Servant Question (2 min): "If we address this need by changing the script, who feels called to draft the language? Is that person already carrying too much? If so, can the group share the load?"
Conscience Vote (1 min): "Does the group feel this change serves our purpose? Or does the need require a different solution—perhaps a conversation, not a script change?"
Closing (5 minutes)
Secretary: "Is there any 7th Tradition business? Announcements? Any needs we heard tonight that we are not ready to address in the script but want to hold in our hearts?"
"Let's close with the Responsibility Statement: 'When anyone, anywhere, reaches out for help, I want the hand of arts anonymous always to be there. And for that, I am responsible.'"
